(Corpus Christi, TX – April 23, 2024) Coastal Bend Community Foundation (CBCF) announced they have awarded over $625,000 in grants to three deserving Coastal Bend charities. These grants aim to address critical community needs in hunger relief and animal welfare.
Addressing Hunger and Food Insecurity
A significant portion of the grant funding, $425,000, was awarded through the Food Pantry Special Grant. This year’s recipients include the Coastal Bend Food Bank ($410,170) and the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent ($14,830).
Karen Selim, CBCF President and CEO, highlighted the impact of these grants by stating, “Last year the Food Pantry Special Grant helped provide food assistance to over 368,543 individuals across our seven-county service area. It is our hope that with an additional $50,000 awarded this year, the impact will be greater.”
Supporting Animal Welfare
CBCF also renewed its commitment to animal welfare by awarding a $200,000 Special Spay/Neuter Grant to People Assisting Animal Control (PAAC). In 2023, PAAC utilized funding from this grant to perform 2,152 critical spaying and neutering procedures. This year’s grant aims to facilitate a similar number of procedures, helping to control the pet population.
Karen Selim, CBCF President and CEO, states, “CBCF is proud to support programs that promote responsible pet ownership, and spaying and neutering is a cornerstone of that. Our community benefits from a more manageable pet population as it reduces the strain on shelters and ensures more animals find loving forever homes.”
