About Coastal Bend Day of Giving
What is the Coastal Bend Day of Giving?
The Coastal Bend Day of Giving is a 24 hour, online opportunity to donate to local charities at the forefront of assisting those most at risk in our region. This year, donations made on the Coastal Bend Day of Giving website, www.coastalbenddayofgiving.org, currently up to $22,500 for each of the 62 participating nonprofits, will be doubled so each nonprofit has the opportunity to raise $45,000 for much needed services!
How is the Coastal Bend Day of Giving attracting gifts to this program?
Each of the nonprofits contacts their volunteers, prior donors, friends and family to contribute. Additionally, the general public is invited through KIII-TV3, radio, newspapers, and other media to give.
When will donations be accepted?
Donations can be made on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 (12:00AM - 11:59PM) and are also accepted during Early Giving, November 6-13, and will be processed on the day made; both for matching purposes. Of course, contributions made directly to the nonprofits at other times are always welcome.
What type of gifts can be accepted?
Can I mail in my gift or make my credit card gift by phone?
No. To receive matching credit, all gifts must be made through the Coastal Bend Day of Giving website at www.coastalbenddayofgiving.org or through a Coastal Bend Day of Giving connected link on a participating nonprofit’s website. Contact the nonprofit to which you wish to donate if you have computer difficulties or lack access to a computer, and they will be able to assist you.
Is there a size limit on gifts?
The minimum gift is $10.00. There is no maximum amount, but matching grants will only be made up to the first $22,500 donated to each nonprofit in the Coastal Bend Day of Giving.
My employer will match charitable contributions. Can their matching gift be matched through this program?
The employer matching gift can earn a match but only if it is made through the website, is made before the close of the 24 hour Day of Giving and otherwise meets the eligibility rules of the employer’s program.
Is there a limit on the amount of matching funds a nonprofit can earn?
Yes, the maximum is currently $22,500.
What if I want to donate to multiple nonprofits?
If you want your donation to be distributed equally among the 62 participating nonprofits, simply select “Coastal Bend Community Foundation-DONATE TO ALL” and your donation will be divided among all the participating nonprofits. Otherwise, you may select the nonprofit(s) and amount(s) to each you wish to donate and complete your donation in one transaction, similar to the “shopping cart” method used by most online vendors.
What if the nonprofit I want to donate to is not listed?
The nonprofits participating this year were selected because they are on the front line, providing basic services to at risk populations in our communities. Additionally, many of the matching funders are restricted to whom they can donate by their individual charters. Focusing on these 62 nonprofits also permits the matching funders to spread their normal grant making to additional nonprofits in the community. Of course, you can make donations to your favorite nonprofit at any time.
How will a donor receive acknowledgement of his/her gift?
All gifts made through the Coastal Bend Day of Giving website are processed by Neon Pay, a service that facilitates online donations. Donors will receive an email receipt for tax purposes noted as "From: Coastal Bend Community Foundation" – you should not also receive a tax receipt from the nonprofit. The nonprofits do receive, however, the contact information for each of their donors, unless the donor requests that the contribution remain anonymous, so you should receive a thank-you note from the nonprofit.
What costs are associated with the program?
Credit card donations are subject to a combined fee of 4.9%. This includes a 2.2% credit card processing fee and 2.7% technology services fee for online Giving Day platform merchant provider, Neon One. In addition, each credit card transaction is charged a .30 cent transaction fee. (If multiple donations to different nonprofits are included in the donation cart as part of a single transaction, there is only one .30 cent charge for the transaction). eCheck donations are subject to a combined fee of 3.7%. This includes a 1% processing fee and 2.7% technology services fee for online Giving Day platform merchant provider, Neon One. In addition, each eCheck transaction is charged a $1.00 transaction fee. American Express transactions will have an additional 1% surcharge. No other costs are deducted from the donation. The Coastal Bend Community Foundation underwrites 100% of the Day of Giving administrative costs including the development of the website, the development of e-mail, posters, and other marketing material, and training costs.
How can donors be sure that the participating nonprofits receive the contributions?
After the Day of Giving, the Coastal Bend Community Foundation will provide a grant to each of the nonprofits for their individual donations and matching funds earned. The financial and public charity status of all nonprofits were pre-approved prior their participation. In the unlikely event that a participating nonprofit should lose its tax-exempt status or close prior to the distribution of grants from the Coastal Bend Day of Giving, donations collected will be divided equally among the remaining participating nonprofits.
