Eligibility and Guidelines - Fall 2011

The Coastal Bend Community Foundation announces its 2011 Fall Grant cycle.  Applications will be accepted from May 12 to June 23, 2011. Each year, we receive many requests but have limited resources and many exemplary applications cannot be funded.  Therefore, please note that significant changes have been made to the Fall Grant process.  The following guidelines are provided to assist in preparing your application:


General Guidelines:
  • Applications and attachments are to be emailed to sjackson@cbcfoundation.org. If your agency does not have the equipment or software necessary to do this, please contact Sue Jackson for further instructions.
  • Each organization may submit only one application with the following exceptions:
    • Colleges and universities may submit up to three applications but they must be prioritized by the applicant.
    • An organization serving as fiscal agent for a partnership or collaboration may also submit an application for itself.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered, will not be allowed to resubmit, and will be returned to the applicant with an explanation of why they will not be considered. As each application is evaluated based on the contents, it is critical that you provide clear and complete responses to all information requested. A complete application includes:
    • Completed EZ or regular application
    • Program/project budget if applicable and current year organization budget
    • Audited financial statements (if audited financial statements are not available, send balance sheet and statement of activities for most current fiscal year. Do not submit IRS form 990.
    • List of current Board of Directors.
  • Grant reports – either interim or final – are due for 2010 fall grants on July 1, 2011. Applicants who have not submitted required grant evaluation reports by the deadline will not be considered for 2011 fall grants. Required forms may be found on the Foundation website www.cbcfoundation.org and must be submitted via email to sjackson@cbcfoundation.org.
Key Dates:
  • Deadline is June 23, 2011. Without exception, all applications must be complete and submitted via email by this date.
  • May 20 – Fall grant seminar. Attendance is not mandatory but new applicants are strongly encouraged to attend. The seminar will be held at the Del Mar College Economic Development Center, Room 106 from 10:00am to 11:30am. Please call the Foundation at 361-882-9745 to reserve a seat.
  • July 1 – deadline forinterim/final reports for 2010 Fall grants.
  • August 12 – 2011Fall grant awards are announced.
 Eligibility Requirements:
  • Have federal tax-exempt status – 501(c)(3) or government/school entity applying for projects outside of basic services.
  • Project is withinthe seven-county area of Texas served by CBCF (Aransas, Bee, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio and San Patricio counties).
  • Request executable in 2012.
  • Organization must have been formed before January 1, 2009.
 Criteria: 
  • Strength of organization (management, board involvement, etc.).
  • Program’s benefit to the community and how it relates to the organization’s mission.
  • Uniqueness of project – filling a need not currently met by existing programs.
  • Ability of organization to accomplish result as described in application.
  • Soundness of budget and financial strength of organization.
What We Fund (lists are examples, not all inclusive):
  • Arts and Culture
  • Education – including library services, GED, adult literacy
  • Environment – including animal welfare, park improvements, conservation
  • Families and Children – including family, youth and elderly programs
  • Health – including medical and patient services programs, diabetes programs
  • Human Services – including counseling, drug programs, food pantries, shelters
  • Public Good – including disaster relief, housing, community development
 The following types of requests are not likely to be supported:
  • Religious activities of religious organizations
  • Funding for individuals, school groups or athletic teams
  • Travel or transportation expenses
  • Fundraising events/sponsorships
  • Office or playground equipment, unless for efficiency or safety
  • Capital development campaigns where less than 75% of the total campaign goal has been reached
  • Academic research without community involvement or partner
 
Note that the EZ Application and Regular Application Cover Sheet are in Word format and can be saved. Both require the use of Arial 10 point type; please do not exceed the maximum number of lines requested for each answer.
 
Please email applications in two separate files: 1) the application and 2) supporting attachments. Applications emailed after June 23, 2011 will not be considered. Please do not call for a grant status report. If you want acknowledgement of your application, please request “read receipt” on your email.
