ROPER - MYRTLE WAKELAND ROPER/LEOLA GARRETT SCHOLARSHIP

Purpose:

Established by the Bishop High School classes of 1942-1947 to honor two beloved teachers. Myrtle Wakeland Roper was an elementary and high school teacher in Bishop, where she taught English, coached UIL competition teams and made students want to excel. Many of the students of the classes of 1942-1947 had Mrs. Roper as a teacher in both elementary and high school. Leola Garrett taught typing, bookkeeping and shorthand. The Kingsville native graduated from Texas A&I University and was a UIL competition coach for many years.

$1250/one available

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • graduates of Bishop High School who plan a career in teaching, or;
  • a non Bishop High School graduate, provided that support given to this person will have a direct and meaningful benefit to Bishop High School.
