Purpose: Joseph Huerta loves to learn. He is known for asking "why". He loves to learn so much that he earned several scholarships that assisted him in receiving a JD degree. Due to his education, he is now a successful local attorney. He wants other worthy students to experience the opportunity to "learn why" as he did through advanced education. He established the Puedo Scholarship to provide that opportunity.
Note: Only one additional scholarship will be awarded to students at high schools which the top two applicants attend. For example: If a student from Ray High School is awarded the $5,000 scholarship, only one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a second student at Ray High School; and, if a student from Collegiate High School is awarded the $2,500 scholarship, only one $500 scholarship will be awarded to a second student at Collegiate High School. If the top two scoring students are from the same high school, no additional awards will be given to students at that high school.
Eligibility: Applicants must:

  • Be graduating seniors from Carroll, Collegiate, King, Moody, Miller, Veteran’s Memorial or WB Ray high schools or Harold T. Branch in Corpus Christi, Texas
  • Have a minimum GPA of 90% on a 100% scale
  • Be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university
  • Maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale to receive second semester check (only $2,500 and $5,000 awards)
